What we loved about the Swyft Model 04 sofa bed - at a glance
What I like best about the Swyft Model 04 sofa bed is how easy it is to set up. The base of the seat pulls out, and the back of the sofa is on hinges which then extend flat, allowing it to transform more swiftly (pardon the pun...) into a bed. While other sofa beds often rely on a fold-out platform which isn’t the comfiest, here you're actually sleeping on the thick cushioned base and back themselves. Bonus points for the arms that can be removed, letting you add space to the bed without sacrificing comfort on the sofa.
Be aware that there is a dip between the base and back portions of the sofa when extended as a bed - if you're a sensitive sleeper, consider the matching mattress topper for an added layer of support.
How was the Swyft Model 04 sofa bed delivered?
The two man delivery service made life easy, dropping off all three boxes right in my living room. The core range is available for 24 hour next day delivery, but you can also choose from their full range of fabrics if you’re happy to wait a bit longer.
I opted for the mottled velvet Conifer shade and patience paid off when the perfect fabric arrived to match my space.
What is the Swyft Model 04 sofa bed like to assemble?
The unboxing felt like a recycling mission, but kudos to Swyft for their eco-friendly packaging. They use a combination of cardboard outer packaging and recycled and biodegradable plastic to protect the sofa cushions.
After attempting the solo assembly route, I quickly realised it's a two-person job. Once reinforcements arrived, it was smoother sailing. Swyft's online guides were a lifesaver, making leg screwing, back clicking, arm attaching, and cushion arranging a breeze.
Is the Swyft Model 04 sofa bed good quality?
The fabric quality is stellar: smooth, soft, and resilient against stains - which I discovered after take-away night nearly ended in tears. I used the upholstery setting on my steam mop to remove dried curry stains and no mark was left behind, which was very impressive.
The cushioning strikes a perfect balance between firm and cosy - some sofa beds have a telltale lack of padding or perceptible metal components in the seat, but with the Model 04 you would never guess its dual purpose unless you knew!
Should you buy the Swyft Model 04 sofa bed?
If you're after the perfect blend of mid-century modern charm and functionality, this sofa bed is a great choice. If you prefer cushions you can really sink into, this sofa may not be for you, as it does have a firm, supportive seat.
Although Swyft don’t have physical showrooms, you’re often able to view their models at John Lewis to 'try before you buy'. Price-wise, at the time of writing the Model 04 was available for £1,799, down from £2,295 - for the level of quality, we think the reduced price is an absolute steal!
