What we loved about the Simba St Ives bed - at a glance

What I like best about the St Ives bed has to be the style and colour. It looks premium, with its Moss Green colour (there are 34 colours to choose from) and plush velvet fabric, it looks as luxurious and expensive as it feels.

The padded headboard and plush footboard seat surrounding the frame add to the luxe feel and really elevate my otherwise plain bedroom. The ottoman storage is also a real bonus, especially for those of us who lack storage.

Another thing I loved about Simba in general is the service. The VIP service was impeccable with the lifting, assembly and storage mechanism being assembled in under an hour. Perfect for busy people (I went back to working on my laptop and left them to it!).

The guys who delivered and assembled my bed were efficient and so lovely – shoutout to them.

How was the Simba St Ives bed delivered?

After choosing my bed preferences and ordering, I was sent delivery options by Humber. I opted for the £50 VIP service which meant I was able to go back and forth on the delivery date with the company.

It took two weeks for the first delivery option to be sent through which is a very quick turnaround for a custom bed.

Unfortunately, I couldn't make the first three delivery options sent through so my bed was delivered around a month after ordering.

This is my only criticism of the VIP delivery process as I was only offered one date per email. This meant if you couldn't do that specific date (which I often couldn't due to in-office work commitments) you'd wait around a week for another email to be sent which also included only one delivery date.

If you're a freelancer, work from home full time or live with someone who does, this won't be an issue for you. It's just worth bearing in mind that if you're in the office a lot, your delivery may be longer than usual due to finding a date which works for both you and the company.

Aside from the initial date selection the delivery of the bed was smooth and efficient. Humber text you the night before your delivery whether your drivers will arrive AM or PM. Mine arrived at 9 am on the dot and were done in under an hour.

How was the Simba mattress delivered?

My Simba hybrid original mattress was delivered the following Monday from my bed delivery. This process was very easy as I was emailed by DPD a specific time slot.

It arrived on time and in this huge box (worth noting this box was very heavy and took two people to take up the stairs).

What is the Simba St Ives bed like to assemble?

The St Ives bed arrived in several separate parts. The headboard, baseboard, slates, frame and sideboard all arrived separately, covered in protective wrapping.

As I opted for Simba's VIP service, the bed assembly process was the easiest I've ever encountered! The two lovely guys who delivered my bed carried it from the van to my room and assembled the whole thing quickly and easily.

The only tool I had to provide was a screwdriver. This meant I could go back to work while they worked away upstairs. They were truly brilliant and made the process stress-free.

This extra service costs £50 and for the assembly and choice of the delivery date, it's well worth the additional fee.

How was the Simba mattress assembly?

I was pleasantly surprised with how easy it was to assemble the Simba mattress. I did it by myself, laying the rolled-up mattress onto the bed frame and then cutting the packaging open.

The matress then unfurled very easily and the instructions were clear and concise.

Is the Simba St Ives bed good quality?

This is perhaps my favourite aspect of the St Ives bed. The quality feels amazing! The velvet fabric is soft, sleek and looks expensive. I love the vintage design of the headboard, it instantly elevates my space.

The bed frame and slates feel durable and sturdy, with the base being lightweight enough for me to slide into different positions.

The ottoman function is another brilliant aspect of the design (you can opt for drawers instead). The storage space underneath is huge and has provided me with more storage than I had previously had.

At first, the ottoman was a little stiff to lift but once the bed had sheets, duvets and pillows on top, the mechanism became easier to use.

The handy straps attached to the ottoman frame make lifting smooth and easy and I've had no trouble lifting and storing in the weeks since its arrival.

Is the Simba mattress good quality?

Absolutely! I've been impressed with the Simba mattress. It's firmer than I'm used to but after a few night's sleep, I became used to it. It feels supportive, comfortable and of great quality.

It's a mattress I can see myself using for years to come, I'd even consider purchasing future mattresses from Simba.

Should you buy the Simba St Ives bed?

If you're looking for a luxurious, storage-efficient and customisable bed, I'd highly recommend the St Ives bed. The quality is beautiful and it truly feels like a bed that will stand the test of time.

It's also brilliant for those who lack storage as the ottoman function gives space which is usually wasted.

Plus, if this style doesn't fit with your home, the Simba premium range also includes the Hebden, Kelham, and Portobello beds, all available in a range of colours, fabrics and storage options.
