The Proscenic P12 is a smooth and easy-to-use cordless vacuum with some seriously classy features. Although carpets needed a higher power setting than hard floors for maximum impact, we were highly impressed with the overall value for money.

Pros:

- Brush headlight for detecting even the tiniest specks of dirt and dust - Intuitive LED touchscreen controls - Five-stage filtration system - Stick retracts for use as a handheld vacuum

Cons:

- Struggled on carpeted floors on the lower power settings - Fairly small dustbin capacity

Ease of use:

When it comes to handling, the Proscenic P12 has plenty to recommend it. Lightweight at just shy of 2kg, it features an ergonomic handle with a super-comfy grip. Plus, the stick offers 90 vertical and 180 horizontal rotation to help you reach awkward corners and under low furniture.

Noise levels are reasonably quiet, especially on the lowest setting, but even on maximum power the sound maxes out at 76dB, which is comparable to similar cordless vacuums in the same price range, such as Vax’s Air Lift 2 Pet Plus.

During our extensive testing, we encountered no problems with clogging or tangling of the roller brush roll - another big plus.

5/5 points

Features:

The P12’s Vertect technology is the particularly eye-catching feature - it promises to illuminate specks of dirt that would otherwise be invisible to the naked eye. While in practice this is quite difficult to test, we certainly found the green LED headlight to be an incredibly useful feature for ensuring surfaces were left spotlessly clean. Use in low lighting for maximum impact.

Another handy feature is the LED touch screen display, which can be used to cycle between suction settings, as well as displaying battery life indicators and symbols to alert you if the roller brush clogs or if the dustbin becomes full.

Like many cordless vacuums, it can be converted into a portable handheld vacuum, useful for cleaning car interiors, upholstery and soft furnishings. However, rather than the body detaching from the vacuum stick like most models, the stick simply retracts into itself - then all you have to do is swap the brush head for one of the included attachments (crevice tool and 2-in-1 dusting brush).

If you’re in a household that needs to be mindful of allergies or other air sensitivities, this could be a good choice for your home. The P12 has improved on its predecessor’s four-stage filtration system by adding an additional HEPA filter, which enables it to eliminate 99.99% of dust particles while expelling purified air.

Another improvement on the P11 is the dustbin capacity - while the P12’s 1.2l dustbin isn’t the largest on the market, it’s a notable improvement on the 0.65l dustbin of the previous model. And just like the P11, the P12’s dustbin is emptied with a single touch of a button.

Cleaning results:

We tested the vacuum in a house that’s home to three cats - a tough ask for any vacuum - and found that it performed brilliantly on hard flooring, sweeping up pet hair, dust and debris effortlessly.

Getting the same result on carpets required a bit more elbow grease, however, and had us switching up to maximum suction. This does in turn drastically shorten the battery life - which lasts around 60 mins on the lowest power setting and around 13 mins on the highest. So if you have a lot of carpeted floors, be prepared to recharge frequently - especially if you have pets!

4/6 points

Value for money:

The Proscenic P12 comes with a one-year warranty, which is at the lower end of the vacuums we’ve reviewed, but still offers decent peace of mind.

Overall, we found the P12 offered great value for money in a crowded market. We were particularly impressed with features like the Vertect headlight and touchscreen display, which gives this model an air of quality well above its budget-friendly price tag.

2.5/3 points

Final score:

Taking into account all of the criteria described above, we give the Proscenic P12 Cordless Vacuum a total score of 17/20. This equates to 4.25/5 stars.
