Testing the Ninja Foodi Mini 6-in-1 Multi-Cooker
To test the Ninja Foodi Mini air fryer, I tried cooking TikTok's viral feta pasta recipe, which includes a block of feta, a punnet of cherry tomatoes, a sprinkling of chilli flakes, mixed herbs and garlic cloves, and a handful of fresh basil leaves.
I scored the Ninja Foodi Mini on how easy it was to use, the cooking results, its value for money and the tech specs.
How to use the Ninja Foodi Mini 6-in-1 Multi-Cooker
Even as a mini version, the Ninja Foodi 6-in-1 Multi-Cooker is still pretty hefty in size and weight. You may need some help unboxing it and getting it in place, but once you've found a good spot for it, it's easy enough to plug in and get going. The larger size is made up for the fact it has a range of cooking functions; as well as air fry you can pressure cook, slow cook, steam, bake/roast and sear/sauté.
The model comes with an ‘inspiration guide’ with lots of recipes as well as timings and settings guidance. I particularly liked the big chart at the end of the book with clear guides for how to cook a range of dishes.
Ninja recommends preheating the machine for 5 minutes when air frying, on the bake/roast setting at 190. I didn't realise this until after cooking, oops. The results were still great but it probably would have cut down on the cooking time had I warmed it up first.
I set the function to Air Crisp and the temperature to 200 degrees with a timer of 20 minutes. The 6-in-1 Multi-Cooker didn't require any manual shaking halfway through which was handy, and when the timer was up my dish was definitely ready. In fact, I probably could have cooked it for 15 minutes, not 20 as the tomatoes were a little browner and mushier than I was expecting.
Taste test
The meal itself was delicious, perfectly creamy and flavoursome. It served enough for three too, so I had some yummy leftovers the next day. I'm definitely making this a regular weekly dish!
OUR VERDICT: Should you buy the Ninja Foodi Mini 6-in-1 Multi-Cooker?
If you are looking for an occasional air fryer, for just the odd meal here and there, the Ninja Foodi Mini is probably not going to be for you. But if you're looking for a sturdy, reliable oven replacement then you can't go wrong with this. I'm struggling to think of a meal you can't cook in it! I've since experimented with cooking chicken, chips, fish and more and have been greatly impressed by the speed of cooking and the tastiness of the meals.
The Ninja Foodi Mini is pricier than other air fryer models, but it has a greater capacity than many standard designs (4.7L) and offers more cooking functions than your standard oven. Its clear digital navigation screen and comprehensive instruction guide made setting it up easy too. The size is best suited for a 2-3 person household and you'll probably need to keep it out on display unless you have plenty of cupboard space. It does everything it says on the tin (I mean box), and I can't fault it!
