Gtech Pro 2 K9 review
The lowdown:
The Gtech Pro 2 K9 is simple and quick to assemble – you just need to click the pole, head and chassis together. It’s also easy to separate the elements, simply pushing down release buttons.
It comes with a bag already fitted, but I removed it and tried putting a new one in, which was straightforward – though you need to make sure it’s expanded before fitting onto the lid.
This stick vacuum is nice to use as it feels light but well-balanced and easily glides over hard floors as well as carpet (wool and sisal) – a good option if you have back issues. The stick rather than the head rotates, so you can move it around corners incredibly easily, pushing it with just one hand.
It features an on/off switch, so you don’t need to hold down a button to use it, and it’s the same story when you’re switching between Eco and Max modes. The Max mode is considerably louder than the Eco, and as you’d imagine the suction is much stronger in this mode – I mostly used it in Max mode and imagine I’d only use it in Eco if I wanted to quickly spruce up the entire house.
I loved the LED lights which are surprisingly helpful for general vacuuming – this was tested during a dark, gloomy winter – but especially when tackling corners and under furniture.
According to the manual, pushing the vacuum forward picks up larger debris while pulling back activates the AirLOC to pick up finer particles and pet hair. This seemed to work well as it coped with post-Christmas pine needles, leaves, pet hair from one dog and one cat, as well as the usual crumbs and dust, on various surfaces.
While the Eco mode works well, you’ll most likely want to use this in Max mode to get the best suction. This means you’ll have a runtime of approx. 20 mins
Features:
It comes with several attachments, including a crevice tool, extension tube and power brush, which fit both the stick and the handheld unit, which means it’s super versatile.
While it doesn’t feature an anti-tangle brush, it comes with a hair removal tool to use on the brush bar, which is removed by unlocking the latch on the side of the floor head.
This model also features a space in the lid for a scented cartridge and comes with six cartridges. I’m afraid I didn’t like the smell, but this is subjective, and for those households that use plug-in air fresheners, this will be a bonus feature.
The LED charge indicators are useful, especially as it takes 4 hours to charge. Four bars show how much power is left, with each bar turning off as the power is depleted. When it’s on charge, these LEDs pulsate, and turn solid green when it’s fully charged. I also tried the boost hour charge feature, which gives a few minutes power for urgent spills and messes.
The bags have a capacity of 1.5 litres, and there’s a clear tube on the unit so you can see when it’s full. As a guide, Gtech suggest ‘a home with pets and children, where cleaning is done three times a week, will average just 10 bags a year’. It comes with four bags, and you can buy a pack of ten bags for £14.99 on their site.
Results:
While the Eco mode works well, you’ll most likely want to use this in Max mode to get the best suction. This means you’ll have a runtime of approx. 20 mins, so it’s not going to suit a very large house. That said, there is the quick one-hour boost if you need to vacuum something quickly, and it’s a light, comfortable vacuum to use.
I docked a point as it doesn’t have much in the way of anti-tangle technology, which other vacuums on test featured, however, it does offer the bonus of a bag if you suffer from allergies or asthma. All in all, I gave it 18 out of 20.

Value for Money:
Costing £249.99, it is competitively priced compared with other models on the test. However, it comes with a relatively short warranty of two years (Hoover come with a five-year warranty), and there is the small cost of buying the bags, but I still think this represents good value for money.
