The best Christmas gins - reviewed by the YourHomeStyle team
Edinburgh Gin Apple and Spice Gin Liqueur
The Edinburgh Gin Distillery's Apple and Spice Gin Liqueur is a firm favourite with the YourHomeStyle tasting team. Sweet enough to drink on its own, the crisp tang of apple and spicy note of cinnamon ensure that it packs a flavourful punch.
Apple and spice is a classic combination for sweet treats, we would make the ideal boozy complement to your festive baking - we'd love a few sips to wash down a plate of freshly-baked gingerbread or stollen. Alternatively, top up with soda water and a cinnamon stick for an eminently drinkable festive tipple.
Clementine Light Up Snow Globe Gin Liqueur
This is the Christmas gin everyone was talking about last year and we predict it's still to be a smash hit for 2022, too! Marks & Spencer have released a clementine and ginger gin liqueur infused with edible 23-carat gold leaf. Just shake the light-up bottle and watch those shimmering flecks of gold transform into your very own snow globe. We love it!
With its sweet citrus kick, it would make a fabulous substitute for orange juice to make a properly boozy Bucks Fizz - luckily, the M&S gift set comes with a bottle of the retailer's Limited Edition Conte Priuli Oro Prosecco
Secret Garden Seasonal Edition Christmas Gin
Bursting with warming winter spices, this cinnamon, ginger and cardamom-infused gin is Christmas in a bottle - and a very impressive bottle, at that. Smooth and sippable, we'd serve it over ice with a ribbon of orange peel, topped up with tonic or - for even more warmth - ginger ale.
Jaffa Cake Gin
As the label declares, Jaffa Gin is made with 'real-life no-fooling Jaffa Cakes' (don’t ask us how, it’s Christmas magic), this gin is delicious topped up with your favourite tonic and really does deliver a smooth hit of chocolate orange. Serve with a twist of orange zest and a sprig of rosemary for the perfect festive tipple. We liked it so much, we used it to make our delectable Christmas Collins cocktail!
Sipsmith Limited Edition Series Sloe Gin
Sloe gin is the quintessential Christmas gin, but all too often we've found that commercially-produced versions tend to be syrupy and have a pretty generic 'berry' flavour. Not so Sipsmith's Sloe Gin, which is sweet while remaining delightfully tart, and bursting with the flavour of real sloes.
Sipsmith's suggests pairing with sparkling wine to make a Sloe Royale, but we'd be happy sipping it neat as an alternative to port - preferably in front of a roaring fire. And it would make a fabulous addition to mulled cider in place of the traditional slug of brandy!
Didsbury Gin Blood Orange & Ginger Flavoured Gin
If you love a flavoured gin but prefer the real-deal spirit over a liqueur, Didsbury Gin's Blood Orange and Ginger Gin is the Christmas dram for you! The vivid taste of blood orange shines through this dry, smooth spirit, followed by a subtle note of warming ginger.
We'd top it up with some elderflower tonic and garnish with a slice of dried orange or a handful of berries.
Eden Mill Candy Cane Christmas Gin
Candy canes are among the most traditional Christmas tree decorations, so it was only a matter of time before some clever distillery put them into gin form - step forward, Eden Mill. Their candy cane gin combines the sweetness and the peppermint punch of the classic Christmas treat. We'd use it to add a touch of mint to a festive cocktail or as a refreshing digestif.
Snow Globe Gin Liqueur, Orange & Gingerbread
Snowglobe gin definitely comes with a gimmick - flick the switch on the base and the integrated LED uplight will send a glow through the bottle as the edible gold-leaf flakes inside swirl to and fro in a magical Christmas scene. Plus, it comes in a pretty gold-edged box, ready for gifting!
However, it's not all about appearance - what about what's in the bottle? Well, it's hard to beat the combination of vibrant Seville oranges and the sweet, spicy taste of gingerbread. Top up with ginger beer or lemonade, or use a splash to give a martini a festive twist!
Edinburgh Gin Christmas Gin
Edinburgh Gin's Christmas offering takes its inspiration from the famous gifts of the three kings at the Nativity, frankincense and myrrh. The result is a unique Christmas gin with an aromatic body quite unlike the cinnamon and clove-heavy festive gins usually on offer.
With additional notes of juniper, nutmeg and orange, we reckon this would be the perfect base for a scene-stealing Christmas cocktail. Or if you're a real gin connoisseur and enjoy your spirit neat, simply serve over ice.
That Boutique-y Gin Company Yuletide Gin
We'll be the first to admit we're not quite sure how the makers of Yuletide Gin went about injecting all the flavours promised on the bottle - cinnamon, ginger and medjool dates are one thing, but mince pies, Christmas cake and panettone are quite another! Don't expect a treacly-sweet liqueur, though; this is a full-bodied traditional gin, with only subtle undertones of Christmassy spices.
The gold leaf - seemingly this year's Christmas gin must-have - adds a special touch, particularly if you're planning on giving a bottle as a gift. If you'll be drinking it yourself, we'd recommend topping up with your favourite tonic and a slice of orange.
